What is Technology Transfer?

Technology transfer means transferring or granting of rights or technologies acquired through research and development to a person who wishes to implement such rights or technologies; the comprehensive meaning of technology transfer includes the transfer of rights, licensing, and expertise.

Target of Technology Transfer

The target of technology transfer is intellectual property, such as applied patents, utility models, designs, and layout design and software of semiconductor integrated circuits registered in accordance with the Patent Act, as well as capital goods integrated with these technologies, and related information.

The term “Technology” means any of the following

  1. A. Intellectual property, such as applied patents, utility models, designs, and the layout design and software of the semiconductor integrated circuits registered in accordance with the [Patent Act]

  2. B. Capital goods integrated with the technologies of the paragraph A;
  3. C. Information related to the paragraphs A and B; and
  4. D. Other matters comply with the paragraphs A to C and prescribed by Presidential Decree

The term “Technology Transfer” means transferring of technologies from technology holders (including a person who is authorized to dispose the said technology) to other people by using the methods, such as transfer, right to use the patent rights, technical assistance, joint research, joint ventures or mergers and acquisitions.
